Kathakali

Kathakali dates back to the 1500s. The plays usually deal with themes around Ramayana, the Mahabharata, and the Puranas. Here we attended an outdoor program put on by the Taj Malabar Hotel for the guests. A local artist explained the basic training Kathaklai artists must go through and demonstrated a brief play where Baby Krishna kills the woman who tried to kill him.

Cochin Streets

Here are some shots of the streets in Cochin. I especially like the one with the doors and the woman in her salwar kameez.

Ferry Ride to Cochin

We loved taking the ferry across the water at Cochin. The fare is 2 rupees, about 5 cents.

This is our hotel on the right. We had a nice view of the water.

Goats of Cochin

I didn't see any cows on the island. Maybe the streets are too narrow. I did see lots of goats! I like goats!
