More work outside the house

Well, I seem to be fascinated by people working here. The man is clipping by hand, the grass "hair-plugs" I featured on an earlier post. Then he moved to trim the lawn in general. There are no power mowers, electric trimmers, gas leaf blowers. etc. Everything is done by hand. The women are sweeping up the "lawn" in front of our house.

Outside our house

I took these pictures of the house across from ours. Notice the short handled shovel on the ground next to the man. Talk about back-breaking work. He is digging up the lawn so it can be resod.

Now it is up to the women to plant little grass plants to resod the lawn. At the end the lawn will look like it had grass "hair" plugs. I like the next two shots showing the women working and the men sitting around. Some things are the same all over!!

Women Laborers

I was hoping to capture photos of these women working. Notice the shallow bowls on top of their hard hats. They bring the concrete to the men who take the bowls and dump them into the molds. Entire building are built this way. You do not see cranes on site. These buildings are not built with steel beams as ours are done.

Women Laborers at a Construction Site

These pictures are a little fuzzy because I shot them on a maximum digital zoom. These women have been working on this site ( viewed from my hotel room) 6 days a week. No hard hats in sight. All this concrete is hand-poured by putting a load of concrete in a large shallow bowl. The women then position the bowls on top of their heads ( on a special hard hat with an additional rim on the top for the bowls). They then form a continual line to the site of the pour, going back and forth. Perhaps I'll find another site where I can show you this.
