Street map

The streets of Bengaluru are not laid out like in Manhattan. Trying to walk anywhere is really not possible. Fortunately, the tuk-tuks are everywhere and cheap. It is also pretty cheap to get a car and driver for the day.

If you enlarge this picture, you will see The Windsor Manor near the white area at the top. This is our hotel.

Hi, Pat -- one of April's vivid India stories -- we were tired of being inside our hotel room in Agra, and went for a short walk -- just the two of us and a autorickshaw-walla -- no, two autorickshaw-wallas -- add a bike rickshaw-walla -- no, wait -- about a dozen autorickshaw-wallas, bikerickshaw-wallas, and concerned passersby... No, no madam! Ride, madam! Ride, madam? Madam should not be walking!! Would madam like to ride? Ride, madam? After about two blocks spent traveling in the middle of a dense cloud of various ride-purveyors chattering like a bevy of over-excited exotic birds, we finally retreated back to the hotel in defeat.

I enjoy your pictures and Sarah's blog entries -- I'm glad that we have this technology available to us so that the rest of us can share your adventures!

I know what you mean, Dorothy. I went for a walk one of the first days here and one guy just followed me down the street for about 2 blocks. I kept telling him I WANTED to walk but that just didn't seem to compute. Now,I just don't make eye contact!
